Ezra (Biblical book)
From A Storehouse of Knowledge
The book of Ezra is one of the historical books of the Old Testament, traditionally placed after 2 Chronicles in English bibles. It tells the story of how the Israelites were allowed to return to their homeland after their exile in Babylon, thanks to the will of God and the conquest of the Babylonian empire by the Persians.
Ezra is among the less well-known of the historical books, since much of it consists of lists of the people and families who returned from exile. The end of the book also contains an account of how the Jews were ordered to send away any wives of other races that makes somewhat uncomfortable reading in the modern day.
