Great Britain is an island off the north coast of Europe. It is part of the United Kingdom, and is divided into England, Scotland and Wales. It is mountainous in the north and west, with low-lying ground to the south and east, though only in the east are there extensive areas of flat ground. Great Britain is heavily urbanised, with nearly 59 million inhabitants on its eighty thousand square miles.
Great Britain is sometimes informally called just 'Britain'. However, this term is ambiguous as it is sometimes used to refer to the whole United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland.
