Isaiah (Biblical book)
From A Storehouse of Knowledge
The Book of Isaiah is a book of the Old Testament which contains the words of the prophet Isaiah. At 66 chapters, it is one of the longest books of the Bible. Among all the prophets, Isaiah is especially important to Christians because it contains many of the prophecies that are said to have predicted the coming of Jesus.
Isaiah is by no means the only Jewish prophet to predict the coming of the Messiah, but he speaks on the subject at greater length than any other, and verses such as "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6) seem to speak very clearly of Jesus as Christians understand Him. For example, this verse clearly says that the Messiah is God, not a mighty but mortal man; and it associates Him with peace rather than military success and the defeat of one's enemies.
