Jeremiah (Biblical book)
From A Storehouse of Knowledge
The Book of Jeremiah is one of the major prophetic texts in the Old Testament. It contains the prophecies and life story of Jeremiah, along with some of the events that occurred in his lifetime. During Jeremiah's life, the kingdom of Judah was conquered by the Babylonians and the Israelites were taken into exile there, marking the end of the self-governing kingdom that had been established by David; these coming events cast a shadow across much of the book, as Jeremiah continues to deliver God's word to the people in increasingly troubled times. The eventual fall of Jerusalem is recounted in the final chapter, and lamented in the separate Book of Lamentations, also written by Jeremiah.
