The Middle Ages is a period of history of Europe that spans the fifth to fifteenth centuries. The Middle Ages began following the collapse of the Roman Empire and continued to the middle of the 15th century when the Renaissance in Europe began.
In England the Middle Ages are considered to run from 1066 to 1485 with the preceding period, from 410 AD to 1066 AD, sometimes known as the Dark Ages, although this term has largely been dropped.
