Nero

Nero was a Roman emperor during the first century AD, succeeding the Emperor Claudius. A notorious autocrat, Nero is particularly known for the persecution of the early Christian Church that occurred under his rule; according to tradition, he was responsible for the martyrdoms of the Apostles Peter and Paul, the two most influential figures in the spread of the Church following Jesus' ascension.
