Philippians

From A Storehouse of Knowledge

Jump to: navigation, search

The Epistle to the Philippians is a letter written by St Paul to the early Christian church in Philippi, a city located Macedonia, in what is now Greece. It is included in the Bible, grouped alongside the other letters in the New Testament. It was written while Paul was imprisoned on the island of Patmos.

In the letter, Paul encourages the Christians of Philippi to continue his work, and to live good lives, using Jesus as a model (Philippians 2:5 may be the biblical basis for the modern custom of asking "What would Jesus do?"). He emphasises that conversion to Christianity is the start of a journey, not the end of one (Philippians 3:12-13).
