Ruth (Biblical book)
From A Storehouse of Knowledge
The book of Ruth is the seventh book of the Old Testament. It is a book of history, but unlike the books placed either side of it, it tells the story of one person and her family, rather than the whole Israelite nation. The eponymous Ruth is a Moabite woman who marries an Israelite; her story is important partly because her descendents include King David and, later, Jesus.
Ruth is one of only two books of the Bible to be named after a woman (along with Esther), and the only book of the Old Testament to be named after a Gentile.
