South Australia is a state on the south central coast of the Australian continent. It is bordered by Victoria and New South Wales on the east, Western Australia on the west and the Northern Territory to the North. Its capital city is Adelaide.

Like many Australian states the main concentration of settlement is in the coastal region.

The tourist attractions of the Flinders Ranges, Barossa Valley and the Blue Lake of Mt Gambier are located in South Australia. South Australia was a common gateway for tourists going to Alice Springs and Uluru because of the railway between Adelaide and Alice Springs. In more recent years aviation has reduced the reliance on rail transport.

The mining of iron ore is a major industry in the region of Whyalla, Port Pirie and Port Augusta, known as the iron triangle. The Barossa vally to the north of Adelaide is a major wine producer. The city of Mt Gambier in the south of the state is a center of plantation timber and saw-milling , primarily for construction lumber.
