Ballarat is the third-largest city in Victoria, situated west of Melbourne. It's existence owes much to the discovery of gold, and it is now home to a gold museum and the gold-fields-themed Sovereign Hill theme park.
The Eureka miners' revolt, in which gold miners revolted against government requirements for miners by taking up arms against government troops, occurred in Ballarat.
