Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America. Its capital city is La Paz and it has borders with Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru. Much of the Bolivian population is indigenous or mestizo, and its official languages include the indigenous language Guaraní as well as Spanish.
Bolivia is named after the revolutionary Simon Bolivar, who was a key leader during the struggles of a number of South American countries to become independent from colonial rule. This makes Bolivia the second largest country in the world that is named after a single historical figure, after Colombia.
