A cave man is a person who lives in a cave.

The "cave man" idea became popular following the discovery of Neanderthal and Cro-magnon human fossils, which, according to the evolutionary view, were considered primitive forms of human beings.

In the evolutionary view some proto-humans lived in caves before they developed the cultural and intellectual abilities to build their own stable accommodations.

In the creationary view, people have on occasions lived in caves throughout history, and still do today, often as a temporary measure until they are able to build (or afford) a home.

Some human cultures, even today, still employ temporary accommodations, including caves.
