Jump to: navigation, search

Celtic punk is a genre of music that blends punk rock with traditional Irish music. It is a subgenre of punk rock, pioneered by the Pogues in London in the 1980s. Celtic punk songs often borrow themes found in traditional Irish music, such as Roman Catholicism, the labor movement, and drinking songs. Instruments used in Celtic punk bands typically include the guitar, bass guitar, and drums found in most punk bands as well as the fiddle, accordion, mandolin, bagpipes, and tin whistle common to traditional Irish music.
