Delmarva Peninsula

The Delmarva Peninsula is a relatively large peninsula located on the Atlantic coast of the United States. The peninsula has a total land area of 5,454.482 sq mi (14,127.044 km²) and is bounded by the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.[1]

Etymology

The name, Delmarva, is a portmanteau of the three states' names that occupy the peninsula: DELaware, MARyland, and VirginiA (derived from the postal abbreviation VA).
