Illinois is one of the midwestern states of the United States of America. Springfield is the state capital. Its largest city is Chicago, one of the largest and most important cities in the entire country. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,830,632.[1]

It is landlocked, although it does have a small amount of coast at the southern tip of Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes.

It has a strong political tradition, having produced such names as Adlai Stephenson and Abraham Lincoln.
